Default What's gender identity

Can any brains here give me a hand. I've been puzzling over this for an hour. For women's sociology. Making me go nuts.

"Gender identities created under slavery"

Would the fact that the slaves were used to breed more slaves be an identity?

i believe the gender identity under slavery would be they were born with the identity that they are lesser than their masters and should be servants to those who own them. the gender part would be the women be servants to the men both the masters and of other male slaves and the men would have the identity of being lesser than their masters. i need more info for further analysis

hope this helps, i'm not a sociology major, but i do have a pscyh degree

Examples of gender identity in various situations:

Star Trek - men get to be cool like Captain Kirk and Mr Spock while women that work on the Enterprise wear short skirts; any evil female is really hot and seduces one of the men

1950s bread 'n butter America - women cook dinner for their husbands, pop out babies and raise them while daddy is at work earning money to put food on the table

Womyn's Studies - men are oppressors who invented the bra and have subjugated the female gender for hundreds of years, women are just as capable as men so let's overthrow them and take their jobs while we stop wearing bras

Etcetera.

Basically it's kind of like, what a gender as a whole thinks of its place/role within a society.
