yeh...theyre very affordable now since the 8x just came out..
get a 4x dual format and ull save lots of money..
if u wanna hold out for a lil longer...i bet from now til xmas...the 4x will drop alot more..
maybe another 30-40bucks off or so..

Gotta sweet deal on an 8x from the local Costco, $439 on the Phillips....:eh: Can't remember the model #. But yeah, they rock.

So can you just copy from existing DVD's or can you record from the TV as well? I was under the impression that you can only copy, am I wrong?

record from tv??
ull need some type of harddisk to store the tv broadcast first..
then compress or edit and burn

You can record from TV, you can record from any auxillary source via S-Video or RCA inputs.
So you can transfer VHS to DVD, and conceivably yes, DVD to DVD. All you need is another DVD deck to play the disc you wish to dupe.

So if I understand you correctly, you have two options.

1-- use the S-video input that hooks directly to your DVD and record it using RCA inputs.

2-- record it using a VHS tape and then transfer it from VHS to DVD.
