you're right on. cc and ml are both measures of volume, so you can use either to describe solids, liquids, or gases.

metric measurements of volume are based around the weight and mass of pure water, and all metric measurements can be sourced directly back to the properties of pure water.

1ml=1cc

1L=1,000 mL

1m^3 = 1,000 L

1m^3 (1,000ml x 1,000L) = 1,000,000ml

1m^3 (100cm x 100cm x 100cm) = 1,000,000 cm

Kilograms, incidentally, are related to water aswell...

1Kg H2O= 1L H20

1m^3 H20 = 1,000L H20

1m^3 H20 = 1,000Kg H20

***edit: That was probably really confusing, but it's a good thing to know whenever you tackle the metric system
