The Oracle is a tool. The "prophecy" is b.s. The architect used the prophecy as propaganda because he knew that there would be "rebels" (the people of Zion) that wanted to be freed from the matrix. The prophecy and everyone involved was just the next level of control from the machines to give the people of Zion a false hope. Including the current Matrix, this is the 7th time that everything has happened with a few minor differences. The first six times Neo chose the (his) right door to save Zion and pick the people to start it again. This time he chose the left door so he could save Trinity and now the people of Zion will need to defeat the machines instead of "rebooting" the matrix.
