5 mph to 60 mph acceleration?
Is it normal that it takes more time than accelerating from 0 to 60 mph?
I am reading some stats on the RX-8...
0-60 in 5.9 sec [edit]
5-60 in 7.5 sec
How does it work for you and your car? similar result?

It's usually a judge of torque characteristics, as well as a more commonly realistic 0-60mph time.
When doing a 0-60mph time test, the driver can launch at high RPMS so that the engine is well into it's torque band and power curve.
A 5mph to 60mph run already has 1st gear engaged with very little revs, so it traditionally takes longer.
You'll notice that cars with lots of torque at low RPM will have very close 0-60 and 5-60 tests (i.e. Corvette)
The RX-8, S2000, Celica GT-S, etc....all of which make their peak horsepower and torque in the high revs, will traditionally be quite a bit slower in the 5-60mph run.
CLIFF NOTES: This is normal.

basically because when you launch from 0, you get above 5 mph VERY fast, and you've got a lot of momentup and high revs already built up. If you're at 5 mph in first gear, chances are you are very low in the rpms, thus taking it longer to climb through first and into second. Like AF said, more torque means its easier to build up speed at lower rpms.

its also all about how the 5-60 test goes.. if its first gear roll then WOT and so on then you get the posted numbers... but if u did it the wrong way, rolled at 5, pushed in the clutch, revved upp and did it like you were stopped... you'd get alot faster results...
