I'm guessing Intel will soon be coming out with some newfangled processor that will compete with the AMD 64.

I think the P5 which is due out next year is going to be 64bit. It will also have hyperthreading which AMD does not have.

Windows XP 64bit is around the corner. Longhorn will be out in a few years.

PCI Express is around the corner. Say goodbye to AGP.

Firewire is supposed to take over USB.

There are plenty of devices out there that don't need the speed offered by firewire, and USB 2.0 is almost as fast. But like, you don't need 400 mbps transfer rates to use a freakin steering wheel or something.

I'm thinkin firewire will continue to be the standard for things like DV cams and HDs but for most other peripherals USB will still be king.

Yeah. I use firewire for hard drives and cameras in my multimedia class. But USB is excellent for everything else, and that 2.0 USB will make your scanners faster and stuff.

The 64 Athlon is supposed to be totally nuts. But I'm still waiting until quantum physics are introduced to run-of-the-mill electronics ... Did you know that there was a prototype organizer based off quantum physics???

That Ghz FSB on the new G5 is also completely sick ... my Athlon 2200 is overclocked from 133 to 174 and that G5's still waaaay beyond me ...

A few PC motherboards have 800 mhz fsb. Mine has 533 but only runs at 133 or whatever.

Yeah, but as more devices start using firewire, it may become cheaper to equipe motherboards with only firewire than have both.

ok... right now the atlon 64 basically works as dual 32 bit processors... guess what? a hyperthreaded P4 does that too.. the only major difference between the athlon 64 and a hyperthreaded P4 is the 1meg 2nd level cache and the only way you're gonna see a major difference between the two is if you're doing some real intensive high res gaming or using a lot of computer aided drafting programs at the same time. the average PC user isn't gonna be in that boat so the athlon 64 isn't very cost effective IMO. by the time a 64 bit OS is released for retail sale, intel will have released the P5 which will annihlate AMD yet again.

the pentium 4 EE is scheduled for release in early 2004 and as you can see it easts the athlon 64 alive...

athlon 64=overrated
