MP3 thumbdrive part III
Gah!
So I went and bought a Rio Fuse MP3 player, thinking it was also functional as a USB thumb drive. On Rio's website it says "transfer files between computers." I figured, it's shaped like a thumb drive, and it can transfer files between computers, so it's probably also a thumb drive. Nope.
Most MP3/thumb drive combos are recognized by winXP as simply "USB mass storage device" and that's it. You use windows to transfer the files and voila, you're done. You can copy any file to or from the device.
The Rio Fuse even though it looks like a thumb drive, makes you use proprietary software for every step of transferring files. So you can indeed transfer files between computers, but you have to bring the damn install cd with you and install it on any computer So much for being a thumb drive.
So while it's more sexy than the Creative Muvo NX, I bit the bullet and exchanged it for one. I'm gonna play with the Fuse until monday and then ship it back to J&R who are graciously accepting my return even though the damn thing came in that plastic packaging that you have to destroy to open.
This is the Rio Fuse (which I'm returning):

I'm still thinkin about keeping the Rio...might call up J&R and cancel the exchange. I like it. But I dunno.
Okay well answer me this:
With the Muvo NX can you plug it into any computer and transfer any kind of file from the comp to the muvo or the muvo to the comp?

Yeah see that's what I'm thinkin.
I have the Fuse right now, it's 10 bucks cheaper (plus the cost of shipping it back to the store), and it looks nicer.
I think I'm gonna stick with it. I've gotten over my initial shock of it not being a thumb drive.
