polisher vs random orbital buffer
hey i'm looking to get either one of these to make my car bling without my arm falling off.
i did some "research" and looked at the differences between orbital buffer and polisher.
bottom line, you can do some serious damange with polisher, and its impossible to mess up with a orbital buffer. (i've actaully used one already)
but with the polisher, i could stick on a sanding disc and use that when i need to
also a polisher gives a "super duper bling" rather just a normal bling from a buffer. i'm also not a complete idiot and i'll be really careful with the polisher if i get one. but i need some people with experience for some comments and things to look into.
i've already looked at this page.

and i think i can handel the polisher, but i need someone to advise me otherwise if they know of something else.
thanks!

Be very careful around the edges and stylelines. They are very easy to burn through. If that happens, the panel will have to be repainted. Keep the buffer/polisher at a low RPM until you get used to it. Which one are you planning on getting? I've got the Dewalt DW849 and its to damn loud.
thanks for replying, i don't really have a "choice" if i'm spending around 100 CAD for a polisher... its a Wen 7 inch Pro Sander & Waxer, and it comes with a bunch of pads .
i'm not really worried about burning cause i'll be careful and not press down on it or what not. i'm just curious about it actually stripping off the paint around places where the paint is old or flaked off already? will that happen? and is there a better polisher i should look into?

I have both, and if you have experience using a polisher, buy it. If you don't, I could bet you money you'd mess something up learning with it (I know I did the first time
h: ). A lot of buffing can eventually come close to equaling a good polish.

i learned to buff and polish at work (Lexus). i didn't really give a shit if i messed up b/c it wasn't my car. i never messed anything up. it just takes a little time and getting used to. its not very hard. be careful and keep it moving at high rpms though.
This is why you just get the Porter Cable 7424. It is idiot proof and will take care of just about every problem your car is going to have. Sure a rotary is faster, but you run the risk of screwing up your paint. The Porter Cable is totally fool proof. I have never heard of anyone who has messed up their car with one of those. You waste your money with those el cheapo $45 dollar buffers at PepBoys. Get a real machine if you want real results. You wouldn't get budget performance parts if you knew you would just have to replace it because it didn't work, would you?
