Default Meguires 1-2-3

I always used to just put wax on top of wax on top of wax. I wanna do it right, so i got the meguires 3 step. Now, should I remove the old wax on the car first b4 i begin step one? And with what? I really dont wanna use dish soap. And when i go to do the 3 steps again in a couple of months, should i strip the old meguire wax off again??

Dumb question but please help!

I heard that dish soap was recommended to remove and only to remove the old wax on a car. Other than that, you use car washing soap so that any wax that you applied on the car, stays on the car.

If you are going to use dishsoap then use Dawn. It is the best at getting the waxes off your car. Professionals do use it too. Check out www.autopia.ws if you don't believe me.

You can use the Dawn to strip off the waxes you have on right now. That would be a good start. The next step should be to clay your car. If you are going to go through the work of the 3 stage wax job then at least do your car the favor of claying it down first.

The Meguiar's products for the three stage wax includes a cleaner wax that will get off whatever Dawn missed. No worries. The problem with waxes is that even the best wax isn't going to last longer than a couple months. 3 months tops. You aren't going to have to worry about striping it off because it will wear off all by itself. You may want to look into getting a polymer sealant first and then topping it with a wax. www.autopia.ws is a great resource if you need info on what kind of sealant to use. I'm partial to Klasse myself. There are several other members on this board who would agree with me there. Its very fine stuff.

Try not to use dish soap It may hurt your finish. In fact in some cases Like Mercedes Benz they tell you in the owners manual to never use dish soap under any circumstances. What you should use is an automotive grade wash system that will strip your old wax off .Waxing on top of wax is not a good idea unless you do it soon after the first layer for a layering effect. I use P21S total car wash before use the paint cleanser and then I wax . I use P21S shampoo to maintain betweeen waxing. P21S Total wash is German made and is used and recommended by Mercedes Benz BMW Rolls Royce McLaren and Honda Europe .In fact The NSX and The S2000 come from some dealers overseas with a P21S car care package.
P21S in my opinion is far better than Maguiar's and is not expensive if you know where to buy it. Try www.aandmmotorsport.com they carry P21S as well as a number of other brands. If you have questions about car care they have techs answering e-mails and phones that are Honda enthuesiests. Let me be clear I am not related to A and M I just like great service and good prices. They have a complete Honda performance line also.

Those are pretty decent deals over there at aandmmotorsport.com. I recently started using P21S carnuba wax and I find it to be better quality than even Pinnacle Souveran. Very fine stuff.

Madman, you should check out www.autopia.org and see if you can lend any of your knowledge to the forums. It sounds like you know your way around.

Thanks. I have done a lot of work with waxes and polishes and have tried evrything I could get my hands on . I even went as far as to try the Estate waxes from Zymol for $250.00 plus ( What a waste) and all the polymer waxes you can think off . I like P21S the best, and I like the folks at A and M because they are car enthiesiests in General but they love Hondas/ Acuras in particular, and you can't beat their price, and service
