Default lowering

I heard that instead of buying new springs to lower a car, its ok to just cut the springs. Is that true. if possible how much should be cutoff? what r the pros and cons?

you should never cut old springs. the springs are designed with the right number of coils for handling reasons. when you cut the springs you alter how they perform on the car. i know a couple shops in my area wont even do alignments on vehicles with cut springs.

Cutting springs is one of the worst ideas out there. Cutting aftermarket springs is even worse. It will kill your struts faster than you can imagine, as well as make your car unpredictable and unsafe.

With a set of name brand lowering springs like Neuspeed running around $125, just shell out the money. It will be much safer and will handle much better.

Great idea. Don't forget camber kits if you intend on a drastic drop. Anything much over 1.5" will usually require camber kits.

Can you explain what the camber kits do to the tire? i was just checking out the springs and shocks for a 91 teg and the whole setup is like 800+ dollars. not counting the camber kit. you said $125, where did you see that?

The camber kit just corrects the negative camber that results from lowering a car. You know when you see the bottom of the wheel facing farther out than the top, so it is pointed inwards? That is negative camber. It will wear your tires out on the insides if it isn't corrected.

I do all my shopping on ebay since it is very cheap.

Here are the struts I am running. They are cheap and get the job done better than the OEM shocks. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KYB-G...spagenameZWDVW

The springs are just a personal preference. I prefer Neuspeed, but you may want to go with Eibach, H&R, etc. Just find the proper drop height you want. Here is a set of H&R for $150 w/ free shipping. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/H-R-S...spagenameZWDVW

And then here is a rear camber kit from Ingalls for $110. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CIVIC...spagenameZWDVW

It is a pricey endevour to do it right, but it will be worth it.
