Default Need details about how to prep a car before a paint job

Hi, I plan on getting a paint job soon and I want to do the prep work myself. I'm not sure what exactly to do and what strength sand paper to buy. Can someone tell me what exactly to do or show me to a website that explains everything. Thanks!

if the paint is still on it. then u need to get probably 300-400 grit sand paper and start sanding....then id probably go to 800.... primer...sand some more....general rule is to get anything shiny dull looking....

to tell u the truth its a lot better for the shop to prep the car for ya. some people that paint cars are ANAL about prepping...and ull probably just screw it up for them if ur asking on am msg. board. course thats just my opinion

just take 320, and sand it. If you're wanting to get really detailed with it, then yeah, you can prime it...but you don't have to. You usually only prime if you've done actual body work. Just sand what you want painted, and tape off what you don't want painted. It's pretty simple.
