Do they look like stains, or is it like "rust" in the finish? You might want to try some kind of a heavy duty degreaser like simple green or something of that nature. If that doesn't work, try getting some kind of a wheel/metal polish and see if that'll work. If that is to no avail, you might have to get it either professionally cleaned, or the surface of the wheels has to be redone (either remachined or repolished).

High grit sand paper (wet) will help get rid of the dark blemish, but in return it also may leave a lesser finish that may not fully blend as well. It will look a lot better though.

do i have to sand the whole wheel, or just the blemishes?

i sanded the whole wheel with 800 grit sand paper, then 1,000. then i repolished them. turns out the only part that really got raw was the blemish spots. so when i polished the wheel, now the wheel has really bright spots, and normal aluminum spots. the bright spots take the place of the blemishes. i think im gonna have to sand the whole thing with lower grit sandpaper, and then repolish the whole wheel.

anyone know what grit sand paper i should use to make the whole wheel raw? thanks
