you're gonna want to use fiberglass first, Using just Bondo will tend to shrink and settle as time goes on. Use the bondo as a finisher to smooth it out after the fiberglass. Make sure that it is perfectly smooth, especially with Black paint cause you will notice any waves or imperfections

i was just talking to one of my friends and he told me to put a piece of sheet metal on the inside part of the door and bondo over it.

well that should be ok

the least amount of space that has to be filled by filler the better.

yes.. use as little bondo as possible. its very prone to cracking etc. when you remove the side mouldings, you will have an "indentation".. do you want that gone or do you just want to fill in the holes where the clips were and leave the indentation.

shaving off the mouldings and filling in that indentation is not something you'll be able to DIY unless you have A LOT of previous similar work experience. to fill in the indentation you need to spot weld sheet metal, then sand it all smooth. use a little bondo to smooth, then paint... BUT i garuntee it will not come out even close to something decent if you diy without previous experience. you will end up warping the sheet metal, cracked bondo, etc etc etc.. sorry to burst your bubble. but if you want it done nice, check your local shops. hopefully you know someone at a shop who can get you a deal

goodluck!
