Default Tire Sidewalls

I'm not too sure where this should go so i'll just ask it here. What would cause the sidewalls of a tire to start cracking? I've had this Hankook Ventus K105 tire on for about 7,000 and i just noticed the sidewalls have began to crack. Could it be the sun? I use Meguire's on it almost every other wash and thats about it. Any ideas? Thanks.

it could be the brand i guess, but i always thought Hankook was a half decent brand. Guess not then. I use Meguires gold class something on the tires. Thanks for the help!

Although I have heard that tire dressing could be bad for the longevity of the tire, I don't think that it should start to crack the sidewalls.

I'm guessing it's the brand of tire. I had a set of Nitto NT 450's a while back and after a year and a half, the sidewalls were cracking as well. And this happen to be on the side where I can't see the sidewall. Luckily I spotted it when I was rotating my tires.

Can be brand of tire, too much pressure and heat, extreme weather changes, or bad tire dressing that eats away the tire. All over a long period of time. A lot of the cheaper brands tend to crack eariler.

How could tire dressing be bad for a tire? If anything it would be good, keeping the rubber soft and pliable, kinda like a moisturizer.

some things like wax and other cleaners have chemicals that will eat away at the tire. Same as like using wax and other things on wheels, eats away at the coating on the wheels and makes em fade.

That's what I heard. Though I don't think that all tire dressings do it, but majority of the cheap stuff out there is pretty much bad for tires.

I certainly wouldn't expect Meguires Gold Class to crack my tires. But i don't think i'll use it again. It could be the weather changes since it got cold pretty quick. another possibility could be the sun since the tire is on the side of the car that the sun shines on the most. Either way, time for new tires and no more Meguires. Thanks guys.

What have been the temperatures there lately? Extreme heat does it as mentioned but you said its been cold there so never know. My personal opinion is any kinda of wax or whatever could damage a tire, just some may take longer than others. If you're using it to keep your tires shiny, just buy some Black Magic Tire Shine spray or whatever. Might work better and could solve the problem. Whatever it is, hope ya find it out. Good luck!
