Default Project Turbo shitbox.

Well I've been wanting to get into and old school import for a while now but have only come across some overpriced Nissan 510's that looked like rebuilds. I figure even with a decent body I would still have to swap out the stock motor to make it decently quick. Well now I'm looking at a car I was thinking of fixing up before I even thought of getting my current civic.

A Turbo Volvo SHITBOX... What do you people think.

I'm thinking of looking for a late 70's model (the one without the HUGE square lights) to start out with.

this is what I'm thinking of when done (except for that color)...

Turbo, RWD, unique sleeper and... CHEAP INSURANCE. Sounds like a plan to me, but I would like to know what others think.

*edit* Ohh, and that volvo up top is putting down about 600hp and does the 1/4 in 11.91 at 122... on street tires. So it has potential.

that would be a volvo 240...they also make a similar bodied 740 that already has a turbo intercooled motor that could be easily upgraded since it is already made for a turbo setup....also with minor mods the 740 turbo motor will fit into the 240 chassis....they are great cars my family has owned volvos since before I was born until recently when they switched to merceds for the first time.

I've also been told that they are very solid cars. Do you know of any site where I can get specs on the different models? Like weight and engine type of different models? Maybe a message board with some traffic in it?

My first car was a 1980 Volvo GT. I thought it was cool, but slow as could be.

I've been looking around and I can't decide if i wanted to start with a coupe (if I can find one) or a wagon. they are both growing on me with the big Euro headlights.

NOt liking the roof treatment. But those wheels are BLINGING.

Ah yes, the olde 242GT coupe, built by Bertone for Volvo. Fairly rare actually. Which is probably a good thing.

Overall, I like the idea of taking an older Euro and getting creative with it... that blue coupe is teh hotness! Picture it in your mind with a 3 inch chop to the top, and channeled over the frame-rails. Perhaps a side-pipe exhaust..h: :yumyum:

Also, there are a myriad number of SB Chevy and SB Ford V-8 conversions available...
