My co-worker has a 2001 with the soft top, but he really likes the hard top. I'm curious if there's any possibility of swapping them out, since selling his and buying another would just be insane as far as depreciation goes.

Also, do you think there are any advantages to the older top? Do you think he'd have a chance trading his plus cash for one with the newer top?

 

I don't understand what you're asking...of course you can just leave the hard top on all the time. The hard top is something like a $2500 option

an add on hardtop is available for all years.

2000 and 2001 models have softtops with plastic rear window

2002 and 2003 models have softtops with glass rear window

 

Confusing question.....The hard top fits all models. If your buddy buys a hard top he can just use it on a newer one if he wants. It just might be a different color.....:thumbup:

 

the hard top is removeable. No need in making a perminent change. Unless of course you think it's like the Mercedes convertibles where the hardtop is a convertiple one? The S2000 hard top is sorta like the Jeep Wrangler Hard Top in the sense that it comes off and then you store it away in the garage. Hope that helps.

 

i read an article from s2ki.com. someone did conversion from soft to hard top.. meaning, he stripped all the convertible components and put the hard top on.. probably he did it for weight reduction..

I guess you could mold the hardtop on :dunno:, don't know how well it would stay though with it not being an original thing on the car. But, like they all said there is an optional hard top for the S2K.

 

ok so there is a OEM hard top that you can get at a dealership. Then there is a Mugen Hard top that is Carbon fiber for.

Yes but if you think about all the mechnanisms that go into it, it is actually much lighter, i was considering this myself, since i was planing to get a s2k... it also aids in a stiffer roof...which of course is a big plus for handeling..
