2.0 or 2.2?

As far as modding is concerned, I would think that the 2.2 would have better results from things like a turbo or supercharger. With that extra displacement, it is easier to boost up the torque and hp (as long as theinternals as just as strong)

00-01: ecu is not as good as other years, so with proper tuning i/e/h is more effective
02-03: better ecu, i/e/h does not do as much
04-05: bolt-ons have minimal effect
From my experience:
My untuned S2 w/boltons is basically the same speed as a stock 02'. Friend with tuned 03' with the best parts is basically a tad faster than a stock 02'. Haven't gone up against an 04' yet.
This car comes out of the factory all tuned. Bolt-ons just squeeze a bit more power, but is more of a thing to personalize your car.
The best thing about the S2 is that you can drive it to the track (circuit!), drive it hard at the track then drive it home from the track. As long as you do not used forced induction the car is very reliable.

Don't really like the last part of your post:
Is that fact or just your opinion? I'm trying to get a grasp on how well the car responds to Superchargers (the vortech or comptech) and can't seem to get a good idea from the boards....

Relevance is irrelevant
The engine responds well to boost, but it was specifically built to be a high strung N/A motor, so if you boost it and flog it a lot on the track it's not gonna get it's normal 100,000 or even 200,000 plus miles on the engine.
SC's do seem to be the way to go for the F20 but I don't know about the F22.

It's half opinion and half fact because regardless of the car, you just have to be careful with boost. With the s2 and it's high compression, you have to take extra care.
Whenever you make the engine work harder, you will likely encounter more problems. It puts more force and heat on other parts of the car. I'm sure there are turbo and sc'd s2's that are reliable but i'm sure the owners take good care of the car and upgrade the cooling system.
I only race on the circuit and it's more than fast enough for my talent level. I still envy and respect more powerful s2's for having the balls to add more power.
