Default tank capacity before light warning?

Ok, so i was driving my type-s and didn't pay attention to the gas, and my light comes on. So i'm like ok, let me get to a station. Now the needle was pretty low (i've killed it in other cars, but i felt it wasn't time to test this just yet).
Anyway, I get to the station, fill up. and what... 9 gallons exactly? what's up with that? I still had 4 gallons in this puppy?
I called the dealership and they said something about the car should have about 50 miles left when the light comes on, weather that be due to your driving that it's 4 gallons that's what it is.

ok, now I want the real opinions of the car owners (why do I not trust dealerships....)

I just filled up this morning -- the needle was just below about 1/4 tank and I put in about 9.5 gal without topping off. I also drive my car pretty hard and only got 185 miles out of that much gas. . .

And I don't believe it's too good for the car to be frequently running the it down to fumes -- you certainly don't want to run it completely out of gas.

no you don't, but the car is brand new. So there aren't any sediments in my gas tank yet. This is the perfect time to check this probably (thinking in my logic... hmmmm)

Well I wsa doing a little bit of highway driving, i had about 250 miles on that tank before I filled it... anybody else?

It's about more than just sediment. The fuel pump relies on gas in the tank for cooling. Frequently running on low/empty can shorten the life of your fuel pump. Also, in the winter, water can accumulate in the tank (think rust). If your light is going on when you still have 4 gallons in the tank then there might be some kind of problem with the system, because that isn't right.

Hi

I ran into the same thing last night. The light came on, I filled it up and I only had to put in 38 L. (1 gallon=3.8 Liters)

The tank is 50 Liters, so 12L left.

My Civic used to have 8 liters left when it first showed empty.

It is always good for the car to refill it after it hits 1/2 a tank.

Take it easy

acura does this on purpose. Ahm doesn't want you running out of fuel, and makeing the engine run lean causing a knock. Plus with the new EVAP system low fuel casues incorrect FTP reading causeing your MIL to come on.

I haven't expieranced what you are talking about but I do notice that my half way point is definately not at the half full point...My Full to Half Full way point lasts what seems forever and then once it hits just below the Half Full I can't get gas in her quick enough.

There's approximately 3.5 gallons left when the light comes on. It's been pretty much the same in all the Honda/Acura cars we have owned. If you look it's somewhere in the owner's manual.
