cold air question
Go with AEM, just a biased thing towards them, all teh other intake manufacturers have succeeded in copying AEM's designs. So what if you have to relocate the washer bottle, the DC sports one still requires you to run the wires accross the bumper to the other side, and thats the pain, not putting the bottle to the other side. You still haev to rip off your bumper and do all the dirty business, get the AEM, you wont be dissapointed.
Ok....here is the scoop on most intakes for the RSX. Import Tuner's may 2003 came out with a section on intake system for the RSX and here is what they found.
First number is HP second is LB-FT and last is estimated price
1. Injen 9.2, 2.9 $320
2. AEM Cold Air 20.7, 5.3 $392.81
3. AEM Short Ram 5.4, 4.9 $239.50
4. DC Sports Cold Air 19.7, 5.7 $N/A
5. Jackson Racing 7.8, 4.2 $N/A
6. K&N Typhoon 7.4, 3.1 $285.37
7. DC Sports Direct Air Charger 9.2, 2.4 $179.95
Now, these prices are WAY overpriced I think. The AEM Cold -Air is like 250 I think....the prices are off but the specs give you some idea of what the preformances are of these Intakes.
In conclusion, the AEM cold-air gives you more HP and the DC cold-air is 1 horsepower less...however the DC cold-air gives you .4 LB-FT more then the AEM. Keep in mind they even reported the same constant temperature for all intakes. For example, when they tested these intakes, the outside temperature (which plays a role) was 87 degrees and also the under the hood temp was about the same.
One more thing....the AEM intakes temp. was the lowest at 96.5 degrees while the DC was close to 97 degrees. The Injen was 113.5 degrees.
So all in all, I think I personally would go with the DC cold-air because its about the same as the AEM in power and in temperature but yet I believe its cheaper...not sure about the price difference but I think its cheaper. I had an AEM on my 96 Prelude (vtec) and I loved it but I think I'll personally go with the DC this time. The difficulty rating of the DC was less because DC provides a new bottle that clears the intake rather then the AEM which you have to relocate the winshield washer bottle to the opposite side of the compartment.
