Old Guy needs help - RSX or Civic ?
Hi, all I have driven an 1995 Integra for 11 years, and 150k miles. It still runs like new with no mechanical problems. However, I have the urge for a new car. I will be keeping my Integra as a work car, so the new car will be just for fun.
Since my Integra has been perfect in all ways, I am leaning toward buying a new RSX. However, the Civic EX is 3k cheaper and has more standard equip than the RSX. I really like the Civic EX radio (350 watts) with controls on the steering wheel. Gas millege is better in the Civic.
The fit and finish of the Acura is incredible! It is certainly in a class far above the finish of the Civic.
Since the readers here have far more experience than I do, My question is which to buy -- RSX, or Civic?
Thanks for any and all replies.

Well, I've never looked at the Civic (I did have an Accord which I liked), but I really like my RSX. It's easy to drive for regular driving, but it's easy to have fun in it too. I'm getting about 30-31 mpg in combined driving, with some fun in each tank. The hatchback provides quite a bit of utility too.
Cliff, I have driven an Integra for a very long time and love it. The fit and finish of the Acura is far above the Civic. However, is it 3k better? I don't know. The base features in the Civic is better than the RSX, so it looks like the Civic is a better deal. Plus better MPG.
I guess my sticking point is reliability. I know the Acura is reliable, but I have never owned a Honda ( yes, I know they are the same company). I think I am willing to give up the fine fit and finish of the RSX if the Honda will not keep me in the shop all the time.
By the way, the Acura has a much better warranty than the Honda.

BUT I'm guessing you're aiming for the base models, not the SIs or Type S right?
If so go with the civic...both are reliable, both were basically built with the same quality *well duh*
The RSX really is no better than a civic when it comes to options...performance wise however thats a little different... If options are what you're looking at go for the civic... It'll save you money in the long
My wife and I have owned Honda products since 1982, all new. We haven't had any problems with any of the cars, except one (1996 Accord LX that we named Christine), since then we have had a 96 GSR, 99 GSR, 02 RSX-s, 04 RSX-s the only problems have been minor and under warranty. We gave our son the '84 Accord in '95. When it died due to poor maintenance on his part he bought a '91 CRX. When we leased our 99 GSR he also leased a 99 GSR, unfortunately he totaled it. He then found another CRX beater that he is still trying to keep on the road, but he's losing that battle.
1982 CVCC Civic (needed larger car and it was heavily hail damaged)
1984 Accord
1993 Civic EX
1996 Accord LX
1996 Integra GSR
1999 Integra GSR
2002 RSX typeS (7Jul01 purchase date)
2004 RSX typeS
So as you can see we've been in the Honda family for a long time. I don't think you can go wrong with any Honda product over the years, as long as it is properly maintained. But I feel that that is the caveat with any vehicle purchase.

I have owned 2002 Honda Civic EX Coupe and I think the car is good but after my clashed, I bought 2004 Acura RSX Type-S and I can tell you that Acura RSX alot better than Honda Civic, more power and alot better handling. I almost loose control on my Civic for 3 times but never on my RSX even in the rain. RSX is fun to drives and look alot better than Civic. Civic's still Civic and never be better than RSX.
ps. 'You get what you pay for'

I went from a 2002 Civic EX to a 2003 RSX type-S. I love the RSX and I bought one in Feb. 2005 w/ 12K miles for 16,700. I would take a couple year old RSX-S (or 1 year old base RSX) over a civic ANY DAY. I really do feel as if the civic has some handling problems (lead to a totalling with some icy conditions at 30 MPH and about 7 hours in the hospital... PM for pics of how bad the car was messed up). Anyway, the RSX grips much better and the power gains are undeniable. In the Type-S you will also find a 6-disc CD changer with BOSE speakers and leather bucket seats. I would greatly reccommend the RSX. If price is an issue a 1 year old used car will knock off the 3K.
1 year old RSX >>>>>>>>>>>>> New civic (non Si)
