low compression doesn't mean it's better for boost....the higher the better as far as power is concerned, but the lower the CR, the less likely you are going to **** it up....but again, less power...in stock form, they're all about equally as strong....maybe the f22 has an edge, maybe not......if he's gonna build the bottom end first, then get the h22......better head design and that's where power comes from......h22a at 6psi is making over 220whp......h23 at 10psi is making 215whp or so......

i agree with fizzy

as usual...i would have to cast my vote for the h22

if your going to build the motor, then you are going to pull the current motor, and if you are gonna do that, you can get an h22 used for like 1300 engine only.
change rods
change pistons
sleeve the block

all this can be done pretty inexpensively (or at least by me it can)

btw f22a1 is SOHC non-vtec

dont buy into that BS about a non-VTEC head being better, all you need is turbo cams (not that much $, especially used).
or some type of custom cam with shaved duration and some tuning

a much bigger issue is the FRM cylinder walls of the h22a when boosting, basically they dont like it, so u will want to get sleeves for reliability, oil control, ring life

extra lift at high RPMS is better for boost, its the duration overlap in VTEC that boost's-thru and causes loss of power

but again its all about tuning
IMO overall an h22a/1 is a stronger and better engine than an h23a1. even for boosting

thats my opinion
