HELP ME, MY CAR NEEDS AN exorcist!!!!
My car is driving me crazy! Its a 2000 5 speed 'Lude with 80K.
It started with "clicking"power door locks, I'd press the switch, the doors would lock followed by a series of clicks for a few seconds. That was a couple of month ago, now, I've got a host of things that go along with this.
1) Sometimes when I pull on the window switch, the doors lock.
2) If I try to start the car with the drivers door open, the lock will have a fit, locking themselves and then clicking madly for a few seconds.
3) Sitting in the car, the interior light comes on and goes off whenever it wants to.
4) Sometimes, when I touch the door panel, the interior light will come on, without touching any of the switches.
5) If the door is closed and the doors are unlocked. the doors will lock themselves when I start the car.
I started a thread about the clicking locks a couple of months ago. At that time someone replyed that there is a module in the drivers door that controls the power locks. Could this module be tied into the control of the power windows, the interior light and the ignition switch? OR could it be the switch on the door that lights the interior light when the door is opened? Could all these functions be passing thru one switch.???
If so, this seems a pretty pi$$ poor way of designing things. I thought Hondas were supposed to be reliable and trouble free cars. With the problems I've had with mine, I'm starting to wonder

It sounds like you have a short somewhere... a wire could be loose and contacting other wires, or who knows what. Your best bet, if you're not taking this to a mechanic, is to remove the door panel and inspect everything closely to look for abnormalities.
Other than that, monkey's suggestion of a very VERY poorly wired alarm is a good one.

Could be the alarm and immobilizer together are causing this. I agree that you need to check the dash wiring-was there a previous owner who installed an aftermarket alarm or stereo in the car-the harness will have evidence of these.
Honda does a great job with their design work. Parts can fail. You do not know the entire history of the car if you did not buy new and that is also part of the problem here. Could be it was very wet at one point-if it came from another state like Texas after a flood. Go over the car including pulling the door panels and checking all of the switches for moisture and corrision. Did you do a CarFax before buying?-that will also be a help.
One other thing--get a Helm manual. All of the wiring is in it.
Hope this gets you on the right path.

I bought my car new at Fairfax Honda in Fairfax, VA. THE CAR IS COMPLETLY S T O C K!!!
I do not have an alarm on my car, I have done no mods to my car at all it is exactly as it came from the factory. I even have the factory radio without any change or modifcation.
Last Oct, some idiot backed into my car at an apartment complex. I was sitting in the car at the time. It felt like a pretty hard hit. The guy drove off quickly so I didn't get his info. It left a nasty black mark on my rear bumper (where the paint was worn off) but there was no other apparant damage. Never bother to have anyone look at the damage, just been driving it since.
The car has had all its service done at the dealer I bought it from, including most of the oil changes (changed oil a few times myself until I got too scared crawling under the car when it was supported by wooden blocks).
THAT'S THE HISTORY ....... you guys have any idea?? I'll probably bring it to the Honda dealer next week and have them look at it. I've got the extended service plan, so I'm hoping to just have to pay the deductable.

YOU DIDNT CHASE THAT FUKER DOWN?
i would have beat that bitch with a bat ®
uh
clearly something was tampered with here, its dumb to blame it on honda
maybe blame the honda dealership, i'd be down there raising hell right now if i was you, but you seem pretty non-confrontational (no offense...but i woulda ****ed that guy up if he hit my car and left)
in any event, the wiring was DEFINITELY tampered with, and it DEFINITELY sounds like an alarm or some type of aftermarket equipment was installed AT ONE POINT, HOW MANY MILES WERE ON IT WHEN YOU PICKED IT UP.
some honda dealers are real dirtbags, i have 3 by me, and one place sucks cock, fukers charged me 8+ dollars for a goddamn nut when i was swapping an engine, only reason i didnt buy it for $0.89 online is because i had to give this dude his car back the next morning.

Thanks boomer,
I hope my car wasn't tampered with, BUT, I bought it in Feb 2000, its build date was 10/99. I wanted a crystal blue model and Fairfax Honda picked it up from another dealership about 30 miles away. When it arrived. it was FILTHY dirty and believe it or not after 3 years I havn't been able to get rid of all of that filth. The car had 70 miles on it when it was delivered.
To be fair, Fairfax Honda has VERY little room on the property they occupy so i suppose they can't keep many cars in stock.
to be fair to me, I was not adamant about a crystal blue car. I just told them crystal blue was my favorite but I would accept black, green or the milano red (basically anything but white). They just had someone take off and pick up this car from somewhere else. Now that you've said what you did about the tampering, I am suspicious.
I think next time I will go to a dealer that has a large inventory on stock and get one with almost no miles on it.
Ohh, and to be honest and to disclose everything, I dis not chase the guy that hit me because I had been drinking. I wasn't drunk, but I didn't want to get the police involved and start asking me a lot of ??? with the inevitable, "Have you been drinking sir?"

I ampretty sure the "series of clicks" after you lock your door would be a problem with your door's actuator. This is the thing that locks/unlocks your doors locks. This happen to my accrd once.
The locking after you start the car seems to be an aftermakret alarm ssystem. They can be programed to lock when your key is in the ON position. But since you say you dont have one, theres probably a short somewhere like everyone else said.
