Default temp. guage

does anyone know if removing the stock coolant temp. guage sending unit and replacing it with an aftermarket temp. guage would have any detrimental affects on my 96 prelude?

the reason for doing this is i am sick of relying on the stock temp. guage, and if i need to replace the guages sending unit, i might as well get a real temp. guage. thank you.

I have mine set up w/ an autometer temp. gauge, but if I drive my car for awhile (and the ecu goes to check the operating temp) it throws a code & the cel comes on. I think i'm gonna find a way to add a sensor fitting into my lower radiator hose and stick my stock one in there so it doesn't throw that code.

boostlee: most likely i will go with an autometer guage, unless i can find one for less $ and decent quality. if you do that install soon, i would greatly appreciate you letting me know how it goes.
