Default Difference between H22A and H22A4

I found a website stating all the honda engine codes and it says that the 4th gen has the H22A and the 5th has the H22A4. Both put out 190 hp according to my research, so what is the difference? If somebody says they are going to put an H22 in a car, could they be reffering to either one?

H22A1 has 190hp and a closed deck

1996 Prelude VTEC has an H22A1, and is OBD II.

as for the terms open and closed deck, it refers to the engine block and it's cylinder walls/water jacket.

closed deck has cooling channels to help cool the cylinders. open deck has the cylinders "floating", exposed completely to water instead of smaller channels, resulting in better cooling of the cylinders.

Closed decks are better for forced iduction and nitrous, because the cylinders are stronger.

Also I was told that when an encine code is H22a it is JDM and H22A1 it is usdm. Basically, JDM engines don't use numbers after the engine codes.

the Euro-R accord used to use the H22A7, so that theory is false.

it depends on the lineup.
