Default brake light

I have a 99' lude and for some reason latley the brake light has been lighting up randomly. I tried fiddiling with the e-brake but it did not shut off. tonight i was driving on the freeway and i tapped the brake and the light came on the eventually just went off.
Has anyone else ever experenced this or have any idea why it is doing this.

Take a look at the MAster Cylinder and make sure you have it filled. Another possibility is that the E-brake switch is malfunctioning.

your brake fluid level is low. refill the master cylinder reservoir. mine did this a while back and it wasnt the e-brake switch. you'll be able to tell if you look carefully at the light and lift the e-brake handle up and down... it will get slightly brighter as you pull up on the handle, shwoing the e-brake switch is good, but the brake fluid reservoir switch has been activated.

thanks for the help I just went out and checked the fluid level. It is not really low but it is below max by about 1 1/2 inch so i need to go get some fluid and add it
I will let you guys know if that fixes the problem
