Default Interested in an 4thGen Si

I test drove an 4th Gen Si today and I was surprised to find the rpm in 5th gear at 80mph was 4000. Exactly the same rpm as my GSR. I would assume with the extra 0.5L displacement, the cruising rmp should be a lot lower than that. What do you Si guys think?

sounds like a coincidence to me, plus you were in 5th gear which is "techincally" an overdrive gear (even tho there is no torque converter). what is important here is the final drive ratio
and knowing how honda builds their cars out of legos makes it much more likely that they prob saved thousands of extra blueprints and resources by re-using the same basic final drive design.

the 4th generation si (h23a1) is a non vtec h series engine, which makes less horsepower than your GSR, so ur gsr will spank the 4th gen si
if you are looking for more power get a DOHC VTEC 4th gen (they're rare) or swap an h22a into that si.
that car with an h22a will spank your gsr no prob

rpm is based on your gear ratios not your displacement

I own a 4th gen SI w/ intake, exhaust, test pipe, and coil, etc, and I will break off a gsr w/ bolt-ons anyday, drag racing that is. The only time I have problems with gsr's is on the freeway, thats my two cents.

In reply to the original msg, the si is geared nicely for drag, but on racing top speed it sucks, I've hit the 7000 rpm rev limit many a time racing on the freeway "legally of course".

At sea level I ran a 14.7

Its pretty fast for what it is, but I've been told I just have a lucky motor
