Default 93 prelude

im lookin at a 93 prelude for a beater. i found one a week ago. the dealership said its a vtec but it doesnt say that on the valve cover. doesnt it usually say on the valve cover if its a vtec? i dont wanna get ripped on this deal..thanx

I think that it will say it. My 96 S is not VTEC... http://www.clickwir.com/engine_pics.html If it looks like this one... it's not a VTEC.

i found a pic but i cant right click it. the pic that i found says its an si but im not sure if that means it has vtec. my 3g lude is an si but doesnt have vtec. this dealership says its a vtec si but the valve cover doesnt say vtec. i thought they always say vtec on the top

It must say DOHC VTEC if its vtec. There are 3 motors in 4th gen preludes in the USA. The one in the pic above is an F series motor. Its the same motor found in the 4th/5th gen accord. It comes in a prelude S. The Prelude Si motor is an H23 and it does not have VTEC either but it is a twin cam motor. Lastly the prelude VTEC is an h22a and it does have vtec and it says it. Look at the engine block right next to where the tranny bolts up. It will say "F22a or H23a or H22a" you'll know for sure then.
