u don't hone the cylinder walls to fit new pistons. Honing has nothing to do with fitting pistons, you hone the walls becasue it helps the rings seat better, and you don't hone stock blocks onyl if it is sleeved it will ruin the nikasil.

In my 94 prelude Helms manual it states that the H22a and H23a blocks are Fiber Reinforced Metal (FRM) and that the honing pattern is 60 degress. When say not to hone a stock block are you talking about 97 and up H22a blocks

it's not Nikasil. it's Fiber Reinforced Metal (FRM). Nikasil is a coating, FRM is the actual liner material unlike the B series' iron sleeves.

FRM is basically aluminum infused with ceramic which provides excellent heat transfer capabilities above steel, with the self-lubricating properties of ceramic of which also helps to increase durability.

i have never seen first hand a trashed FRM H series block due to forged pistons. i have seen a couple of pics, and those seem to be due to improper sized pistons. the most famous pic is actually of a B-series block with improperly sized pistons installed.

I have Wiseco pistons installed in mine with no problems after 40,000+ miles now.

as for honing, you are supposed to hone the cylinders with 600J diamond cloth with a 60 degree crosshatch... it will not leave the crosshatching as it would on other blocks with honing stones.

Hey Drift.
Interested in if those wiescos are the onesthey say will work with the FRM? or are they just regular pistons. I have a set of JE 11.5:1 pistons i really want to put it, but im kinda worried about doing it. I do beleive that the pistons you see in the horror stories werent properly clearanced. But im not willing to take a chance.

And the only reason that the aluminum wouldnt work, it the excessive heat transfer into the rings, then the rings pretty much would be the cause of failure. i dunno, just throwin that in there
