General 5th gen prelude question.
Hey all,
I'm considering the purchase of a 5th gen Prelude. I will be customizing this car for handling performance. I want to install anti-sway bars and adjustable coilovers. My question are what suspension components are upgraded on the SH trim level and how tight are the upgrades? Is the ATTS worth having and can it be disabled? Would I be better off getting the standard VTEC and doing the suspension mods I have planned?
I'd appreciate any input anyone can offer. Thanks in advance.

You will be better served in the long term with the Base model of the car. If you really need the traction control then a Quaife LSD is an excellent and less expensive upgrade versus the ATTS.
The SH model of the car is very specific from the factory as to the front suspension. The FRONT shocks and springs do NOT interchange with the Base and are side specific as well. Rear suspensions are identical on all 5th gen models of the car. There are other parts up front that ddo not interchange which makes some upgrades more difficult as well.
My dealer talked me out of the SH and I am glad of it actually. The suspension I have on my car works for me. Your choices for components is open-I have my favorite parts and so do other people. If you want coilovers there are several sources along with shocks. Sway bars for the rear will improve handling as well (I like my Neuspeed). If you can find a rear upper tower bar-get it now. Spoon is hard to find anymore. The front one by Neuspeed has served me very well.
Good luck and happy Luding

Yes. I agree with jc836. To add to that, the ATTS is nothing more than a hinderance and an annoyance if you want to mod the front end. You'll pay more for the car to begin with, and never use what you paid more for in the first place. When I bough mine, I test drove both and found no real difference in handling. I don't take it to the track, its my everyday car. For the 3 grand I saved on sticker, I got the spoiler, factory fogs, leather shift knob, floor mats, CAI and a K&N, and still had money left over. I don't have door lamps. Oh, darn.
bah.. i have an SH.. and i LOVE it.. drove my friends non-sh 98 lude, and it didnt grab the road as well.
you can disable ATTS by removing a fuse. simple as that.
i can handle curves at high speeds pretty damn well.. i have sway bars front and back, coilovers and springs...
if you have the chance, drive a sh, and non-sh.. and take the same curve with it. then decide.
i havent had any problems with mods or anything. the oil is a little harder to change though
but oh well. it's worth it.
