timing belt whine
my timing belt was whining when i bought the car. i pulled off valve cover and the belt tried to come off the cam pulleys. both tensioner pulleys were bad so i replaced them along with the belts and water pump. the shit still whines. starts around 2k rpm. it sounds like the belt is too tight. do i have a bad tensioner or something? i re-installed exactly as proceedure said. does anyone have any input on this? i dont think the timing area was missing any pieces. i had everything the picture said i should have and it all seemed to be installed correctly upon removal. and i know i installed it all correctly. havent pulled the valve cover back off yet, but i will do that tomorrow. any help would be great. thanks
Sounds as if the belt is too tight. I had the same problem for a little while right after I had my T-belt changed, but it has gone away now. I guess after driving around on it for awhile, the belt has loosened up a little and the whine is gone
I'm sure you can understand how hard it is to diagnose noises through text. Did you notice any rubbing on the timing covers when you did the Tbelt job? There have been preludes that needed an updated tensioner because the belt would slap the cover.
