need help on a hardd decision
well im 16 years old and im inlove with the honda scene. all into the nice stock clean look.
ive been researdching eg hatchbacks for about ayear now because ive loved them since i was little ..
ive been searching for an untouched one( no ricer or anyone has messed with) for about 3 months now. and have only found automatic eg's or riced out, or theyre messed with how i dont like like interior and exterior is fine but things are spray painted etc.
my parents will pay for a car for me up to 14000 dollars.
if i got an eg.. it would be cheap and i could get a engine swap which i would want a b18c1 gsr. it would save my parents money but they said whatever i want is fine with them if its under 14000
today i was at carmax and came across a 1998 prelude (MANNUAALL!!!) for only 12500 . its got power everything and a sunroof. with 195 hp.
my parents said that car is fine with them and i like it alot. my sister has an 03 civic which was 14000 so they said its okay if i get it.
but ive been into my hatch for so long i dont know if i should get a prelude or keep searching for my civic hatch.
i wanted to know your opinions on this
i know civic hatches are very light but is a prelude light??
would a b18c1 civic beat a 195 hp lude?? i want a fast car but im a very safe driver and never speed and only wanna go fast on the track..i just want a quick daily driver.
do you think i should keep searching for a hatch or get a lude ?
i know its up to me but i really would like opinions to help me out with my decision
like the pros and cons of both
THANKS A TON!

i have a 93 hatch with a lude engine h22a1 bone stock and it moves.. i bought the car for 5,000...Bought the h22a1 complete swap, tranny, motor mounts and all for 3,000... i paid about 3,200 to install it. total 11,200..if ur parents are willing to give u 14,000. i would take the left over money and get a good suspension...then get urself some mods!!! if u want a place for motors try www.motorworks.com some good shit there specialy if ur looking for b18
hey nevermind about motorworks i was just looking at some at http://www.jspecauto.com/ they have a typer r 98-01. compelte swap check it out
ive owned a 92 vx hatch which i just sold not 2 months ago. i currently own 93 prelude vtec and 97 civic 2dr ex. i bought the hatch with 143000 on it and sold it with 265000. it was a phenominal car. i loved the look and the drive of it. it was just starting to fall apart and i didnt have the flow to fix it. i had no problems with the hatch and i totaly reccomend the 92-95 hatch to anyone, and i stand by it 100% it was a great car. your problem is going to be finding one in good shape that has no mods. i didnt have a swap but ive driven a few swaped ones, and they are fairly quick. but i must say even the hatch with a gsr swap didnt have the power and acceleration of my lude vtec. the prelude you were looking at is a great car, mines a 93 so its a different body style but the h22 is a screaming engine. very powerful and responsive, plus with the newew lude, you get all the nice ammenities and comforts plus the quiter/better ride. either one would be great. but the lude will be nicer fo sho
if you do get the hatch go h22 swap. you need to beef up the suspension,(i think someone makes a spension setup for that particular swap) due to increased front end weight. nothing has the torque of the h22 . except for the h23 but it lacks the ponies
well man, I've only driven one hatch, and it had an h22 swap in it. All I have to say is decide what you want in a car.. if you want a little pocket rocket/race car that will zip around uncomfortably but with the best power to weight ratio(which is basically what we are looking at here).. but it doesnt drive very nice imo. I like my prelude because its relatively light(its older than yours, mine is a fourth gen, 93) and it makes good power for its size. It has a wider wheelbase and drives like a nicer car than a civic, less of an "economy" feel.. it would definitley be the nicer daily driver.. if thats what you want. So let us know whether you want a race car or a car thats quick but is easier to drive on the street, thats what it comes down to. A fifth gen prelude is a little heavier than the fourth gen, and I feel like it has even less of a "sports car" feel to it. heres a comparison I wrote a long time ago:
"well my story is i wanted a fifth gen for my first car baaad. the engine the look of the front(slk but more stylish), i wanted it.
i tried out this old crappy 93 car to see what a "prelude" was like cause it was in my town for sale. we had some fun.... the car looked better and better... nice paint, clean title, 63k, 3800$, good condition all around clean interior---there was no reason to find another car! so i got it and after a while i test out a fifth gen base model. i wasnt impressed! i was expecting it to be better(i have an h23) and for some reason it didnt seem any faster. it was also too quiet for my taste(i didnt have any mods on my own for a fair comparison at the time) and it didnt seem much quicker. perhaps this is because of the fact that my motor's a freak and puts out more tq than it should according to the dyno. idk vtec didnt even seem all that great to me, im not a big top end guy.
call me crazy, but afterwards i got into my car and smiled as i started it up, knowing i had the real thing. it just seemed so much more focused and driver oriented, the newer one seemed too refined, like some newer cars today. that might seem sort of stupid, but i hate cars that dont have a sharp sporty edge to them, a car that lets you know all the time that you are driving a fast car...some of the newer cars are so quiet and smooth they just dont give you a sense of a true drivers car.. kind of like a new 911 vs an old 911, cars like the 911 sc or 930 were just more brutal to drive than their slippery smooth and quiet 2006 replacements."
most people probably dont agree w/ me, but thats my fifth gen/fourth gen comparison.
