Default Exhaust Rust

I just got my RS*R about two years ago and looks like its rusting. Is there anyway to prevent your exhaust from rusting, or at least slow it down. I'd really like it to look as good for as long as possible.

That all has to do with the quality of the components. Stainless steel and chrome (which is usually just a high-grade of stainless these days) depends on the Chrome content of the steel for rust prevention. The higher the Chrome content, the more resistant it is. The thickness of the components also plays a heavy role as well. Thin pipes/components wear out more quickly due to the expansion/shrinking when heated/cooled.
Steel piping is VERY prone to rusting, especially in northern states where salt is used on the roadways for ice and snow. Aluminized steel piping is pretty common and fairly cheap and resists rust quite nicely for many years. Again, though, the salt used on roadways accelerates breakdown (the aluminum corrodes and exposes the steel).
About the only exhaust system that will NEVER rust would be one that is made from extremely high Chrome content stainless (quite expensive) or, of course, Aluminum.

the new rsr that is going to be released for the fourth gen is what im going to get... sure its not going to be black anymore, but a high temp resistant rattle can might be the answer(not sure it would stick). its going to be full stainless so it will be somewhat more resistant.

well i called them in august looking for the fourth gen catback and its discontinued, they have already released the new model for a few cars(just go to the exmag page). you can look at the pictures and see they kept the polished tip, but now have a dull unfinished stainless steel for the muffler and piping... which they are quiet proud of. i think the black looked better, but at least it wont rust out as fast! they said they would call me when they release it, and they said about 2 months... this week tho ive been second guessing myself, for there is a chance i might try to set up a diy turbo using dsm parts and that would require a thicker diameter pipe.
