Default trans compatibility

What engines, if any, are compatible with the 5spd in my 2.0S. Id like to do a swap but would like to keep the rest of the drivetrain seeing how its only got 97k on the clock.

you have a b-series motor, and most b-series motors should fit your tranny, HOWEVER, the 3rd gen lude is extremely limited in terms of swap availability. do some searching, this has been covered before. i posted a few questions about a year ago when wrecked my gsr and i wanted to drop the motor in a 3rd gen. what i came up with is that it's nowhere near worth the cost or trouble. your bet bet for a motor swap is an h22, but that's not worth it for that old a car either, IMO.

not trying to be a dick or burst your bubble, just trying to pass on what i've learned.

An H22 would be even more of a pain because I need the entire drivetrain. I heard there are trans mounts for the 3rd gen as well. If i can just swap in an LS motor and leave it at that then I'll be happy. I dont need all out performance, just a little power and reliability. The car is well worth a swap in my eyes. Its in great shape and 97k miles.

And as far as the GSR swap. If anything ever happens to my GSR... its most definitely going into my prelude hahaha

Also, if a b series will bolt up to the trans and if there are prelude mounts for it, can I use a d-series?

you're gonna have hood clearance issues with another b-series motor. do some searching. also, someone was saying that the motor tilts in the lude, and the other b-series motors don't like that? d-series motors use the same motor mounts and b-series, but not the same trannies. so you'd need a d-series motor/tranny combo. i wouldn't reccomend that because the car will be sllooooowwwwww.

Yeah the engine is tilted quite a bit towards the firewall. Makes for a royal pain to do anything with the carbs or anything on the intake side of things.

Thanks for the links phateless

I just need to know if they make B16/B18 mounts to tilt them the necessary angle to get them to A) bolt up to the trans
B) clear the hood

I dont want to do the H22 swap, would rather just do the B18 from an LS or something.

i believe they are/were made, but they might be hard to find now. you WILL have to do something about the hood clearance issue, either get an aftermrket hood, or dent the hood rails, or let the motor sit lower and just not worry about your oil pan/headers clearance. i think you can also grind a little bit of material away from the valve cover to help clearance, but be careful with that. i don't like the idea of doing that.

I wonder about the height of a B18/B16 versus the height of the B20. Cant be a whole lot of height difference unless the DOHC head really is that big.

It takes forever to get a reply over there seeing as all they care about is swapping B18s into hatches. Oh well.
