your intake (made for 97+ prelude) should have a small hole and a rubber tube directly going into the engine. from what i heard, that extra air will be used for vtec. if you don't use the intake that's made for the car, which doesn't have the small hole, then maybe you can use that small filter on the engine. it doesn't make sense to have a smaller filter on the intake piping..the 2nd pic is ridicously funny. it looks like someone taped that paper filter onto the intake.. also, keep in mind the quality of filtering the small filter does. -peace

You guys obviously don't know how a PCV system works. The filter is a good idea to evacuate excess pressure in the crankcase on a boosted setup because the PCV valve remains closed when it sees positive pressure in the manifold and it has no way to escape. Otherwise, just leave it stock.
