Default Diagnostic Tools

Hey all. I own a 00' prelude, and just recently the "engine maintenance required" light has come on. Obviously it would be wise to take to a honda dealership, and get it fixed, but i would like to do my own diagnostics of the car, and determine the problem...i was wondering if anyone can reccomend a good electrical diagnostic tool, (one that gives engine codes) that is simple to use, and affordable. And also, any info, on tools that you guys use, would of course be appreciated........

the red "engine maintenance required" light just means the car is due for service depending on mileage after it's done you just stick a key in the slot and it resets to green.

Go to Autozone they'll scan it for free

Or you can get a paperclip and a service manual and do it yourself

you have nothing to worry about that's just for the regualr schedualed maintenence oil changes etc.. it's just a reminder that honda wants your money lol the engine light flashing is bad if it flashes pull over and don't drive it the engine light not flashing not so bad usually is an emisssions problem

Thats false...any check engine light is a problem

Theres a service connector behind your console...use a paperclip to jump the connector and watch the flashes...use the manual to match up how many flashes you have with the problem..

___ ( long flash) = 10

__ (short flash) = 1
