Default Honda Recalls For Sport Shift Tranny

Hey guys,
Dunno if you know about this.... but i found this on the other board.

http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/...warranty_x.htm

Honda finally admitted that there is a problem with Auto tranny. Thankg God... those bastards were always turning people away claiming they abused the car.

What sucks is that I had a '99 auto which I paid for 2 tranny's PLUS a factory replaced transmission... They should honor '97+... Just my .02

The first tranny (which Honda replaced) that went bad was probobally due to abuse... A few neutral drops, etc. I ran a little N20 on the second, and 6 months later, one day it just decided not to shift out of first? But.... The third transmission, I babied... I kept the transmission fluid changed and never abused it in any way... It started shifting rough from 3rd to 4th at speeds over 70-80. This went from rough to bad in about 2 months. It finally got to where it would stall 2-3 seconds before it went into 4th (and reverse, which is the same gear,) then it just quit shifting at all...

It seems to me that they will all fail at some point or another no matter how you drive it, maintain it, or abuse it. It made more sense to me to sell it and get a 5sp. (Nothing against auto owners)

I wonder how many miles are on these cars. MY SS is running fine after 28.8K miles. Yes, you read that right. Most of it is fast highway and the rest is very quick track days. It is reliable after 3 years and my only complaint to the dealer tech was that it takes a while to "spool up" the torque convertor. He took it out and showed me what was what and all is good.
Also, the question-with honest answer-about abuse is indeed a factor in failure rates.
Just some thoughts.

I think it's BS that they don't do something for the people with the 97+ They didn't change anything from what I understand so those trannies would be crap as well, and mostly proven to be so.

Actually, if you look at the SS transmission from '97 to '2001, they changed it atleast once a year, and I believe a few years saw multiple changes... Reason? Honda knew there was a problem and they were trying to fix it. NOW... Wouldn't it make sense that the '97 - '99's would be WORSE than the '00+ if they were fixing problems for all these years? Honda needs to sub-contract their automatic transmissions to a company that knows what they're doing...

Yes they can tell someone who knows what they are doing build the tranny, but Honda doesnt want to do that. They rather build eveything themselves and design things. Cause If they did give it to someone who knows what they are doing...I'm sure their reliability factor would jump up even more and you know Honda cant do that

I wonder myself why 97-99 Ludes are not covered under extended warantee. I mean thye must figure those cars are already pretty old and they dont want the hassle of paying for all those rebuilds. If you think about it. Honda stopped making Prelude, The new Accord just came out, Oddesy is being changed as well. So you figure these cars have flaws and with the new cars they must have resolved the issue. I'm hoping they did.

it says that people who paid for new transmissions would be reimbursed.. that's good news..

speedy1882 gets his tranny fluid changed every time he gets his oil changed... he has about 76k miles.. he's had 1 issue that was covered under warranty.. his honda dealer even tells him the SS tranny sux...

Did I read that right-changes the tranny fluid every oil change! Wow-that's $49.95 at the dealership for 3 quarts. I'm due for the 30K service and they will reverse flush the tranny and put 7 quarts in for $100. I just did the drain and fill (3 quarts) between The Glen and Pocono for peace of mind, but every oil change according to my Honda tech is extreme.
