if you are putting in new speakers do you really want the old grills????? and yes you would have to take off the panels as the speakers are screwed into the door at the back of the panel.

basically there are several bolts on the door panels, one is where you grab the door from the inside to close it "inside handle" there is a screw at the bottom of that. There is another screw on the lower left of the panel, Another screw is on the right top side. After you make sure you have got those three screws then the 4th screw is behind the handle where you would actually open the door from the inside (the handle that moves not the handle that you grab for support to close the door, thats the one I had mentioned above) it will be hidden behind a round plastic tab just take a flat head to pry it off of top the screw. After you take that screw out then take the flat head screwdriver and pry off the plastic panel where your window controls, and handle sit, and door lock switch are. Once you have popped that out of the door panel just be careful when sliding that plastic piece through the handle so that you don't pull so hard that you break it.
If you take your time on this part the rest is easy and you will be happy. Now that the plastic piece is off of the panel just unplug the two different electrical connectors from the switches of the plastic piece. Now just lay it to the side till your ready to install. Now its easy but you just can't worry about breaking your door panel, cuz you wont its strong. Now go around the entire bottom of the panel with the flat head screwdriver and pry the pop-tabs out it will sound like your breaking them but trust me your not. after you are sure you got all the pop-tabs/screws, then take the screwdriver and remove the little black triangle piece up where the sideview mirror is "IF YOUR CAR DIDN"T HAVE POWER MIRRORS AND YOU HAD TO ADJUST THEM BY HAND THAT IS WHERE THE LITTLE ADJUSTER WOULD BE" If that description helps as to the location to the little black triangle piece. Just pry that piece off it should be an easy thing to pry off. Now I cant remember if there is a bolt or screw behind there that holds the panel to the door, but hey if there is than well remove it duh!! After you do that your all done with loosening the panel and now you can just lift up on the panel to detach it from the window seal and door. P.S. It might take a few good pushes up on the panel but keep at it and make sure you only pull out on the panel a little bit when your pushing up on it or you could mess up the panel seating. ALL IN ALL IT WAS EASY installation is even easier if you ask me because then you realize how easy it really was OH and its straight forward as far as unscrewing the old speaker and reconnecting it so there you have it.
