Default advice on buying (newb)

Hi All,

Ive been looking for a good prelude forum for some time, seems like I might have come to the right place.

I'll soon see by the type of response I get to this:

Im about to buy an imported 4th gen lude,
The guy says that it is a "Honda prelude 2159cc VTEC auto type S"
Does this sound about right?

If so what would the engine number be and where would I find it?
Its got the ribbed round air intake and Black VTEC rocker cover if it helps?

If it is what he says it is what kind of bhp will it be pushing?

Any help would be much appreciated because I dont want to buy something that's not what it says on the tin.

Thanks in advance, Glytch.

Looking through the forum I found SOME answers:
Type S engine number is F22a, 135 hp @5299 rpm

But the bloke says that is 2159 cc not 2156 cc like the F22a should be?
Looking at the spec for the SI and the VTEC none are 2159 cc?

Do the SI and S have the VTEC rocker covers?

Here's a pic of the engine bay in question:

So if it is a VTEC H22..
Does this not mean that the car is therefore infact not a "Prelude S"

If that pic is of the car you're looking to buy, then no worries, it's got an H22. Where is it being imported from, and where do you live? The seller seems confused or something, calling a 4th gen a Type S. That is a 5th gen model, not a 4th.

The car was imported here (WALES) in 1998 from Japan.

You say there were no 4th gen S preludes?
So is this page wrong then because it provides specs for a 4th gen type S

Yes, there are 4th gen S preludes, they are the lowest 4th gen model. The Type S, on the other hand is the "top-of-the-line" 5th gen model and is not sold in the U.S. I'm not sure how the models ran over in Japan, but in the U.S. the S model did not have the H22, and 4th gen H22 equipped ludes didn't have autos. Ask the guy what the vin number is.

I asked the seller for pictures of the VIN
He has done, and it appears that it rolled out of the factory with an auto H22A

However, its not a 17 digit worldwide standard.

Take a look at these:

Anybody know anything about the JDM ones?
Looks like the engine type, chasis type and roll number?

Prelude S chassis is BA8.
The tag says BB1........so it's not an S model. Yeah, over in Japan 4th gens could be had with automatic H22.
