Default cam seal leak

anyone here ever had to replace the cam seal. I took my car it today to change the oil pan b/c the drainplug had been stripped, and they called me back saying that the cam seal was leaking oil.

let me know how much you guys paid if you had it done. she says it's like 300 to have done.

thats because they have to remove the cam to put it in, and the timing belt. I would do it on my own, but it depends on what you can do.

Do you really have to remove the timing belt? I was going to diy, and was under the assumption you could pop out the old one, and get the new one in.

yes, if its the cam seal on the timing belt side. you need to remove the timing belt and the cam gear to replace the seal.

How many miles on it? If it's close to 90K, you'll need to have the timing belt replaced anyway, and they can replace the seal as well. I also had the water pump replaced at the same time, they have a habit of going out around 120K.

it is not on the timing belt side. The cam seal is on the left hand side as you look into the engine. It is on the air intake side. They call it a plastic plug (aka cam seal)...

the oils seal(s) located on the timing belt side can also be referred to as cam oil seals.
