89 Prelude about 170K I've had a oil leak 'bout 6months now. Replaced valve cover gasket and oil pressure switch. Oil seems to be coming from oil filter. So bought napa filter and fram filter and still get leak. Made sure I did'nt leave gasket on causing leak. Get a feeling I'm not putting it on right maybe cockeyeing it. Help

 

If you can't put an oil filter on right you've got no business messing with cars. Oil filter should be no tighter than hand tight, if you've made sure the gasket isn't still on there then you've got bigger problems.

 

Are you sure it is coming from the oil filter and not the oil pressure sender? I have heard of leaks from old pressure senders because the threads wore out. Take the filter off and check if it is leaking further up. If so, buy a new pressure sensor or wrap the existing one with teflon tape to seal everything up.

I just thought that because the filter goes on at an angle. I just get that feeling that I need to buy a filter from the dealership.

 

no it cant be that. do you put a little oil on the rubber gasket before screwing it in as the rubber can fold a bit and leave a tiny crease that under pressure it will leak.

 

Don't just replace parts chasing after a leak. Clean the WHOLE area off completely. Then drive the car for a bit. Then recheck. Or, but a dye kit.

no man i am talking about the fact that he replaced a bunch of parts in an effort to diagnose the oil leak when all he had to do is clean everything off, drive the car and reinspect num nut
