Default head swap/vtec for '89 Lude 2.0 Si?

Just a quick question: Can the head off the B20A5 ('89 Prelude 2.0 Si) be swapped for any other heads like off another model vtec prelude or anything? Just wondering, cause I might be getting an '89 prelude with this motor as a 2nd car and I was just curious as to what sorts of mods could be done or if it was possible to set up vtec in this car. I currently have a '94 GSR and I always hear about people doing LS VTEC so I didn't know if these non-vtec preludes had anything similar that could be done?

Also, please give some input on some mods that can be done for these older preludes. Thanks again.

the old school b20s are no good for vtec. the heads dont match up with the b20a5 block. U prolly of heard of b20vtec and thats only because people use the b20z that came out of crvs. Those are the only b20s that a vtec head will match up. i say u do one of 3 things...

(1) JDM version of the b20a ( i hear they make 10 extra horses

(2) You get rid of the old school b20 and get yourself the b20z and then throw a vtec head on it

(3) keep the b20a5, do up the internals and get yourself a turbo

Thats my opinion.. if i didnt waste my money on my hatch i would of built up my b20 and turboed it, but it all depends on what u wanna do and how much money u wanna spend. Other than that good luck

The b20a has flat top pistons, (or less cupped than usdm). I have a set for sale.

i dont think newer b series from civic and integra will bolt up to the 3rd gen prelude mounts without some creativity
your best bet is accept the car for what it is, a high 16 second car in the 1/4 but its really light and is fun to drive. nitrous is a possibility but itll only get u to mid to low 15's IMO it aint worth it

Back when I had my 88, I used to frequent a site called ludespeed or something of that sort. they used to claim to be able to take your b20 head and basically overhaul the entire thing for vtec. but keep in mind this was... almost 3 years ago. so its probably long gone. just a thought, im not sure i believe a word of it, but it was advertised on their site for around 1800 bucks i think?

ludespeed did stop doing work for 3g ludes.

it is possible to do a vtec head but it will be just as pricey as (if not more than) an h22 swap, and will yeild less gains.

craziness... i wish i would have seen one of those 3g when a vtec head on it... i never QUITE bought into it, figured that it had to be absolutely destroying the reliability of the car... does anyone on here (or another board) have an h22 in their 3g? id love to see it, i used to have an 88 2.0si 4ws that was a lot of fun to putz around in. im now the proud owner of a 2001 s... i wish i knew how to post pics, itd be nice! i absolutely love my new lude!
