Default HELP my Prelude makes strange noises

 I'm new to the board. I've got some questions about noises my 'Lude is making.
1) When I ease up on the gas (decelerate) from about 2000 rpm the engine (or something in engine compartment) makes a "grrrrr" noise. It just started doing this about a week ago. It's not very loud, but it never made this noise before. At first I thought it was the A/C. I turned that off and it still does it. Then I tried it from a standstill, not moving, just revving the engine, it still goes "grrrrrrr"
2) My car seems to make a creeking noise whenever I get on or off the brakes or clutch. Usually when I'm at low speeds like when driving in traffic. It seems to be worse with the A/C on. It doesn't seem to make this noise in winter. Any Ideas? It has done this since it had about 22,000 miles on it. Could it be the motor mounts?
3) My car idles around 700-759 rpm, but it shakes a little at idle. It didn't do this when it was new, but also started doing this around 20K miles. It's not as bad as some other 4 cyl cars I've riden in, but it didn't do this when it was new.

I have a 2000 Prelude 5 spd, NON-sh, no mods (no exhaust or intakes, just everything factory) I have about 52,000 miles.

I have to leave now so I won't be able to respond till tommorrow. But please, if anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated!

For #1 I'm guessing timing belt auto tensioner. Try poping the hood and place your head near the timing belt and have the motor rev up and then drop back to idle. If the sound happens when the revs drop and it's coming from that area I'd be willing to bet that's it. There was a TSB issued for that but since you're out of warranty I'm not sure what the dealer will do for you. The other two seem to be the typical rattles and shakes the preludes have.

Yep, pretty sure your #1 is the tensioner problem TPGuy is talking about. It happens on deceleration.

I have a similar problem only it doesnt happen all the time. It happens sometimes when im coming out of the driveway. At about 2 on the tac. WHen i say once in a while i mean once a month if that. But the squeaking of the clutch is something i have. It always happens (winter, summer, fall, spring) wether or not the A/C is on. In my case the A/C doesnt work. Parts nee lubbing thats all.

Hey friends, it me again, the noisey Prelude guy.

There hasn't been much progress made on my Prelude yet. Fact of the matter is, I'm having a hard time being able to get along without it long enough to get it fixed!h: I've got a 100 mile round trip commute to Wash, DC and back each day to work and the 'Lude is my only ride. I did look up the details of my service contract, however. I have a $50 deductable, towing to the nearest Honda dealer, and provision for a rental depending on how long they have to keep the car. So all that's good

My friend and I tried to locate the noise the other day in a parking lot. I listened around the timing belt area, I couldn't hear anything then. Then, a while later, while I was driving I heard it. I'm a little afraid if I take it to the dealer, they won't hear the noise!! I don't want to waste that time, taking it to the dealer and them saying they "can not duplicate"! The dealer is 30 miles from my home and I'll have to arrange with someone to drop the car off/pick the car up again.

Anyone know what will happen if I delay this repair for a while. Will I damage anything else?? Will the noise get worse so that someone may more easily notice it?? I hope not to have the car die on the side of the raod.

Hey, had #1 problem also ... it's the timing belt tensioner problem... took it to the dealer and they fixed it under warranty. It only took a while though.

It could let go or seize I suppose in either case your timing goes to sh1t and that's no good. If it happens say at 6-7k you can bet that's a wasted motor. I'd say even at idle it would cause a problem I wouldnt want to have. If your dealer wouldn't touch it get it to another, many dealers will do a job like that to get your business since they can write it off most of the time.
