not sure about the actual problem here but u said another known good cluster didnt work?
so the first cluster was totally dead right?
and the ebay one is off by 40mph?
u sure you didnt cut or short the wrong wire somewhere, i would check all connections and harnesses first, then test the speedo and VSS if possible.

Ok, to clarify....my speedo did not work(totally dead)....i ordered a whole cluster from a dude on ebay and plugged it in....i started the car and the speedo jumped to around 32 mph.... i went around the block hoping it wud pop down....but it didnt....it treated 32mph as zero...so if i was goin 10mph it would read around 42mph....i sent an email to the guy i bought it from and this is wat he said......

"YEAH I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE. IF YOU PULL THE SPEEDO NEEDLE UP AND OFF, AND THEN PUT IT BACK DOWN ON THE LITTLE POST, BUT AIM IT DOWN BELOW THE LITTLE STUB THAT IT REST ON AT 0-MPH. SO YOU WILL REALLY BE AIMING IT AT LIKE NEGITIVE 1-MPH AND PUSH IT BACK DOWN AND THEN PUT IT BACK ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE LITTLE STUB. THIS MAY TAKE A TIME OR TWO OF DOING TO GET IT JUST RIGHT. IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS FELL FREE TO CALL ME @ 812-275-4353 AND I CAN WALK YOU THROUGH IT ON THE PHONE. THANKS DENNY."

If I am reading this right, it looks like he is telling me to take off the needle?? wat shud i do??? this is really annoying me!!!

P.S. After i get the speedo workin i wanna get one of these....gimme ur opinions on which would look better and be easier to install....i got a full red LED conversion....but if i opt for the reverse glow ones ill put some blu leds in the climate control indicators so it matches.

Remember, if you do decide to remove the needle, be extremely careful replacing it. The mechanism you insert the needle into is very sensitive, and if you press too hard, you will completely destory this speedo as well. Then again, perhaps this is what the seller wishes to accomplish, then it would be unreturnable?

I don't know of a safe way to do this, maybe a stealership might know? Thats really up to you. I had a similar problem when I screwed up my cluster with both the speedo and tach, I was able to reset the speedo without a problem, but I destoryed the tach and ended up buying a new one. Ask the seller, since he/she's recommending it, if you ruin the speedo by doing this will they still accept a return. Make your decision from there.
