Mileage is important, so is the timing belt and tensioner, make sure they have record of the last time those 2 parts were replaced. Rev it up to see if it blows smoke...thats always a bad sign, especially if its blowing smoke under "no load" as in dry reving in neutral.

The 97-01 Prelude's with the automatic SS transmission's are known to "eventually" develop problems. I maintain that this depends alot on how often the fluid was changed and how well the tranny was serviced based on honda guidelines...however some people believe the auto SS tranny's found in the 5th gen's are flawed.

5spd trannys may have a minor grind on 5th gear when cold, but this is a fact of life for most prelude tranny's from 92+
thats good for starters

That prelude is selling pretty cheap, I'd look out for somthing. Also, it says auto - you'll have alot more fun with a manual shift. It's really your opinion that matters but most people don't regret getting a stick shift once they finally get used to it. The auto's tend to have more problems too. Good luck!

I'm not really sure what's wrong with them, all I know is that my friend with a 5th gen SS had his entire tranny replaced because of some inherit problem(money money right there). I on the other hand went with the 5th gen manual transmission and have had no problems. Who knows.

Manual =
better gas milaege
little more wheel horsepower
faster car (tiny bit)
more controll over the car
less problems than the SS (maybe...)
and SO MUCH MORE FUN

A prelude SS is still a wonderful car, whichever way you go.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Mine is in the Classified and you can see what it has compared to the ad you are showing us. I have no idea what the mileage on that one is along with the wear and tear. If it is a Texas car-make absolutely certain that it is NOT a flood recovery car. Many southeast/southwest lowball priced cars were found to be of that variety at one time. (I'm not saying this is the case here-just telling you to do a complete CARFAX and then ask a lot of questions).
When buying a used car-you are doing just that. See if the service history comes with the car. If you are truly interested and concerned about this deal-spend ~$100 for an independent inspection. Several online sites mention this service-you can also find them for yourself. If the dealer does not agree to allow the inspection-do not buy the car. It is your money.
Got Q's-drop me an e-mail.

Happy New Year

Agreed.

Also, good job on coming here and asking around. Well done, laddy.

(Not to be confused with lady - laddy is the Irish equivalent of the colloquial "guy" or "man" phrase in English)
