Default '89 Prelude seatbelts

Is there a good way to increase the spring tension on the front seatbelt retractors? I have to manually shove the slack webbing into the door openings every time I get out, or I won't be able to get the door closed.

I went to my local Honda dealership yesterday to get my SRS diagnosed. (It cost me 85 dollars and they said everything was fine )

But, I had told them how it,(seatbelt) and here's the kicker, sticks so bad it takes it all night to retract and I constantly have to push it out of the way otherwise it gets caught in the door all the time.
So they ordered me a new seat belt. For free since Honda is dedicated to safety. And they should call me by the end of the week to set up an intall appt.

Thanks a bunch for the 'heads up'. I will definitely give my local Honda dealer a call!

Followup: Service manager agreed to replace my seatbelts for free if I'd clean them thoroughly first, to rule out gunk on the belts. I cleaned them, they still barely retracted, went back to the dealer, and a different service manager told me, "Sorry, but there's no way I can replace them. They work pretty-much as designed." It does seem like replacements would only help so much. It's the design that's screwy.

What if you cut about 2 or 3 feet off the top belt, and restitched it to the buckle? I bet that would function well, but you might have a tough time getting someone to stitch it.

thats bs, go back and get your free seat belts. i believe its a federal law that auto companies warranty their seat belts for the life of the car. correct me if i am wrong, but i believe i heard this somewhere.

Did you get your belts replaced? Did it make much difference? Per Federal requirements of the day, these seatbelts were designed to remain latched. When they are, the buckle NEVER gets slammed in the door! It's just really tough getting in and out.

theres nothing that u can realli do about it, except complain to Honda and write them letters and shyt. I just got used to feeding the belt back into place so it doesnt get slammed in the door.
