Default Computer Codes

I have an 88 Prelude. I know with older vehicles that there are a number of different ways to get the check engine light to flash codes at you. I had a car once where you turn the key back and forth, and I have one now that you short two connectors together. Is there a way to retrieve codes at home on an 88 Prelude?

Well I found how to retrieve the codes, it said turn the key to On, do not start, and locate the "inticator LED", It almost made me think it was at or on the ECU. Anyone know where the LED is? Or ECU?
