Default Console LED Conversion available on EBAY

Here I am again, bringing an old thread back to life. For those of you who are interested in doing an LED conversion, but are not too thrilled about what all is involved, I have a Climate Control Unit and a Cruise/Sunroof/Dimmer Unit up for sale on Ebay with a BLUE LED conversion already performed. Please check out the below links. :yay:

I was gonna make a new thread but decided to just bring this one back. I am in the process of changing all the lights in my car to blue and have come across a few problems I was hoping someone who has already done the mod would be able to help me with.

1) In changing the climate control, I was able to get the indicator lights working perfectly but the icons are quite dim since the LED doesn't distribute enough light to the plastic light distributer behind the buttons. I've already shaved the LEDs flat so they distribute like evenly but the buttons are still not bright enough. This also applies to the temperature slider and fan control.

2) I'm having trouble taking out the cruise/sunroof/dimmer panel to change the LEDs. I've tried prying from the sides but all I seem to be doing is tearing at the material. There doesn't appear to be any clips that hold it into place like the dash. How do I take the panel out?

3) I'm not sure if you've done this mod but I'm changing my ignition light from the original green to blue. I've gotten the keyhole out but have gotten to a point where I can see the circuit board but it is attached to a plastic covering. The plastic covering is held to the circuit board by 2 metal pieces that appear to be soldered onto the circuit board, but its not solder. I tried to unsolder them but its some harder substance than solder.

I've checked www.ledautomotives.com and found the write-ups for the civic and accord but the prelude seems to be quite different. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

The prelude is a good bit different from the accord and civic, 1) you don't say what size led you have used. a 3mm will fit nicely, but will not produce enough light. (I came across this problem as well) I only used 3mm leds for the cruise/sunroof/dimmer. I found using 5mm leds were much brighter (shown in previous pics). If you are already using 5mm leds, make sure you are using a 4000-6000mcd led rating (the higher the brighter).

2) The cruise has 4 clips, it will remove, it's just difficult the first time. if you have the opening below the buttons, put a screwdriver in each side of the box, and then put one hand in the open space, pull with your hand as you pry one of the screwdrivers. I have attached a pic of the back of the cruise with arrows showing where the clips are. Only one can be seen, I removed the others to pull them back out (removing the unit several times will bend down the clips, and they just need to be spread open again, if it feels loose.)

3) I did not change my ignition, I have heard problems trying to change that one out. You may be able to find documentation elsewhere showing how to do this tho.

Thanks a lot! I managed to get the icons nice and bright by removing the colored filters behind the buttons. Gonna work on the cruise tomorrow if I have time. Hope it works out okay :goodjob:

Is it possible to change the door panel and coin tray lights? On the door panel, there's just one small bulb that lights up the "auto" I wanna change and a light on the side of the coin tray.

If you can get the bulb out, I'm assuming you can change it out any bulb if you are willing to take the time to remove them.

I'm about to do the gauges also, but I'm not sure what to do about the needles. I don't want to leave them orange because a blue light + orange needles will look pretty bad. I've searched on ebay for blue needles but no luck. Anyone know where or how I can get blue gauge needles?

well wat i read was that u take a cotton swab, dip it in rubbing alcohol(never take a shot of this) and then rub the needles....the orange shud come right off....since the actual gauges r already white i dont think u need to do anythin to them
