Default Brake Lights stays on

Hello,

I have a 87 Prelude Si. My brake lights stays on even with everything shut off. I cannot shut them off. I have to remove one of the battery wires everytime I shut the engine off to prevent battery draining. Please help.

Thanks.

I had an 86 Prelude with this problem. There is a button under the dash, near the brake pedal. It's just plastic and when the pedal is pushed it opens or closes the brake light circuit. If that plastic gets chipped or broken off so that the pedal isn't touching it, the lights won't go off.

Thanks for your post.

You are right. I did find some broken plastic pieces. The plastic thing that suppose to push the switch when you release the brake is missing.
