94 prelude M/T needs new engine
thinkin of buy this prelude from an H-I member here.
car: 94 prelude Manual Tranny
block is a goner. in need of a new motor.
objective(if possible): 97-01 prelude motor
-will the 97-01 engine fit in the 94 prelude's existing tranny and engine bay?
-if so, what are the complications?
-how much are the 97-01 engine(complete components, harness, and all the computer module) would cost?
-BTW, am a noob to this motor transplant. enlighten me, plz

All cars 96 and up have OBD II. So if you get a '97-01 engine, you will need new wiring and ecm. However, if you are willing to go that route, you can do it without a problem. Honestly, that's the way I would go. If you are going to get a new engine for your Prelude, might as well make it the best you can. The 96s were rated at 190 hp, 97-98 195 hp, and 99-01 200 hp.
You would be looking at about 3 grand for everything in good condition. If you were to buy one, before you do, take the valve cover off and check the cams for proper lubrication. If an h22a has ever had bad lubrication (or not enough oil), the cam lobes will look worn and you will see what they look like under the factory applied coating.
Other than that it's a pretty bullet proof engine. If that's okay, just make sure to change all the belts, water pump, and plugs and wires (when buying used I always suggest cap and rotor as well), do the valve adjustment, and you're good for another 100k.
