Default Short Shifter ?

Does any company make a real short throw shifter instead of a adapter for the 97-01 prelude? Thanks.

The only things I've ever seen are the adapters.

Their are some people attempting to get a 4th gen shifter in the 5th gen on PO. I think someone has done it, but I'm not sure... I guess it has a shorter throw to it though...

I'm selling a Pure Racing short shift adapter if you're interested.

Yes there is an acutal short throw shifter out now. I just came out maybe a month or so ago. There's a guy on honda-tech.com who made it. I can't remember what his screen name is though

Prelude1897,

I would be very interested to know more about this shifter and the fellow making it. Is there anything else you know about it?

Here are some recent reviews for ya:

The Lean True Short Shifter is one of the best modifications done to my car. Its used daily and makes the car feel a lot different. In comparison to the OEM shifter assembly, it is night and day. Shifting no longer has an unsure, sloppy and long feel, but now shorter, sure, and solid. Shifting the Lean True Short Shifter is best described as flicking on and off a light switch, precise, short, and sure. It is an either on or off, in gear or out. Installation is a as easy as putting on a new shift knob.

Throw is definitely shorter and more solid, knob height is lower than stock, but not much, this doesn’t force you to have to put force into your daily driving shifts, the lower the knob the more force needed to move the lever. It is at a comfortable position, for daily driving, and perfectly placed to shift faster than that stock Prelude beside you at the light. The biggest impression made to me by this shifter is the solidness of the shift.

The OEM shifter was very sloppy and unsure, I’d double check to make sure the car was in gear, my brother also noticed this when he drove my prelude, now we are both confident in our shifts, I more than him. The construction of the product is top notch, with the welds being perfect and thick. Strength is at the highest. Shifter has withstood many powerful slams by myself during the test drive.

With this shifter on, I have found myself enjoying driving more and more, along with loving the quicker, and solid shifts that make a world of difference. Now those grocery store runs are worth it.

about a 10-20minute installation, only time consuming part is unscrewing the screws holding the console and squeezing it off the ebrake . Excellent Product, excellent quality. Worth every penny in my book.

Just wanted to thank Mike_sho, and Lean!

This is a Prelude Community First!!! A review on the LEAN Racing Real short shifter for the 5th Gen prelude (and 6th/7th gen accords).

The shifter is only available @ http://www.leanracing.com/shifter.htm and runs $158 shipped.
(less w/ core refund if you opt to return yours)

I read about the shifter here: http://www.*************.com/showthr...hreadid=156213 and almost immediately emailed the owner of LEAN.. lets just say, when he replied I had the check in the mail
2 days later, the assembly was at my door.

First off, this assembly is of incredible construction! The new shaft/column is powdercoated black (or red if you request it) and the welds are PERFECT!!! The look and feel is completely OEM.
Again, I cannot emphasis how nice this products look and feel is!

I will do a complete how-to on how to install the assembly if anyone needs one.
Lets just say I had it completely swapped out in less than 10 min!
I will however tell you this:
The shifter has 2 holes/shift positions, but in reality in the prelude, it has 4 positions.
In regards to the drivers/passengers side, I am referring to which side of the shifter the shift cable is attached.
1. The upper left (drivers side) - this position brings the entire shift position closer to the driver, this is the shortest/'raciest' shifting position
2. The lower left (drivers side) - this position brings the entire shift position closer to the driver, this position it still very short, but not short enough to be aggravating (perfect!!!)
3. The upper right (passenger side) - this position moves the entire shift position away from the driver, it keeps the shifter away from almost any drivers knees/leg this position is the shortest/'raciest' shifting position
4. The upper right (passenger side) - this position moves the entire shift position away from the driver, it keeps the shifter away from almost any drivers knees/leg this position it still very short, but not short enough to be aggravating (perfect!!!)

^^ in any position 1-4, the shifter will NOT hit the center console!

Ok, now for the actual product 'performance' review.

This product is INCREDIBLE!!! This shifter makes the shifts freaking perfect!!! I did have the Pure Racing Short Shift Adapter, in comparison to the LEAN shifter, it is a POS!!!
I have YET to mis-shift due to this assembly. With the Pure adapter, I was missing ALL of the time and even with the center console not screwed down, I was hitting it!

With the LEAN Racing assembly I have also have yet to hear my 2nd or 5th gear grind!!! No it doesn't stop it, but I have yet to have it due to the tention on the shifter cables due to adapters.

Again, this shifter is PERFECT! My shifts are so fluid, so smooth, I feel I am in a M3... the shifts feel so solid, but so smooth! They are quiet, precise, EASY!, and short!!

Comparing the LEAN Racing assembly to the OEM assembly, my throw has been reduced by 1.5 inches per shift!!! This is far more drastic than anything any adapter can provide. AND THIS IS ON THE 'LONGEST' of the shifters settings! I haven't measured the throw on the shortest setting.

I'll shut up now and give you guys the pics... sorry they suck. Well... then again, this is a PO FIRST!!! :malken: Deal with the pics

Ok, now to those who want the nitty gritty...
This assembly uses the OEM shifters base and shaft. The shifter cable bracket is new. PM me for details or measurements
BTW - I cannot emphasis enough on how professional this piece looks and feels!
Ludehawk reported those smudges in the powdercoat as lithium grease from the install. Here is a picture of the red shifter, along with the revised hardware.

There you go. I couldn't rememeber the screen name, but Lean decided to come to this board. One of these days, I'll get the short shifter. Just need money and no bills to pay
